Soane Travels:  Sicily and Malta – October 2018

Traveling in the footsteps of Sir John Soane, we will start our explorations in Malta’s Golden Capital of Valletta… known as such for the beautiful honey colored stone.  Malta was the furthest south that Soane traveled in May 1780 at the end of his two-year grand tour.  We’ll then take a fast ferry to reach the island of Sicily.  We be staying in the eastern coast of the island and exploring the many wonders of Modica, Noto, Siracusa, and Taormina – plus Catania and Etna as Soane did.  This unique offering is being designed exclusively for the Soane Foundation. Please join us!

The Soane Foundation is pleased to join the Soane Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in offering an extraordinary journey to Egypt, which will coincide with a special exhibition at the Soane Museum in London “Egypt Uncovered: Belzoni and the Tomb of Seti I” on view October 11, 2017 to April 15, 2018.…

December 28, 2017 to January 7, 2018

The journey begins outside of Cairo, in Giza, with two nights at the majestic Mena House, at which Winston Churchill and Agatha Christie were guests.  Tour the nearby pyramids and see the paws of the Sphinx up close on an exclusive visit.  Fly to Luxor and stay at the historic Sofitel Winter Palace. Marvel at the elegant design of the temple of Hatshepsut, the famous female pharaoh; and explore the Valley of the Kings, including the tomb of Seti I (pending confirmation), also known as Belzoni's Tomb.  During a leisurely Nile cruise, step ashore at temples devoted to the crocodile god Sobek, and Horus, the falcon-headed god.  In Abu Simbel, marvel at the colossal temples of Ramses II and his favorite wife, Nefertari.  Fly to Cairo to view treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun and other priceless artifacts in the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities.
